29th October 2018 Hearts reserves v St Johnstone reserves 0-1

D ecided to go out to Riccarton for this game. Malcolm who normally goes to reserve games was at a funeral today so I went on my own. Just missed a 34 bus but a 35 came along minutes later and I arrived at the ground at 13.45 for a 14.00 kickoff. The setting sun made seeing parts of the pitch difficult and I was wishing I had bought my sunglasses rather than having to shade my eyes to see the action on the far side of the pitch. Hearts fielded a young side with probably only around fifteen first team appearances across the team. With the Edinburgh derby coming up on Wednesday and Hearts having a long injury list I think they're trying to save any possible first team players for that game. St Johnstone fielded Stefan Scougall, ex-Livingston and Sheffield United and Danny Swanson, man of many clubs including both Hearts and Hibs in their line-up. Also playing was Callum Hendry the son of ex-Scotland star Colin Hendry. It was not a great game and Swanson had the first chance wh

28th October 2018. Hearts v Celtic. 0-3

This is it the big one. The match is now being held at Murrayfield and over sixty thousand tickets have been sold. I left home at 12.15 and walked along Fountainbridge, Ardmillan and Russell Road arriving at the Roseburn turnstiles at Murrayfield at 12.40. The turnstiles were already busy and I bought my £5 programme inside the ground. With the game being at Murrayfield there was no pie and bovril. Instead the usual vans were parked on the concourse offering fish and chips, venison burgers and other assorted delicacies. The food stalls are over priced and I was glad I had my lunch before I arrived at the ground. My seat was in the West Stand, Section 15 and offered a good view of the pitch from near the half way line. Before the game goals from both Hearts and Celtics progress to the semi-final were shown on the Murrayfield big screens. The tone for the match was set in the first minute when referee Willie Callum booked Hearts Steven MacLean after an ariel joust with Celtics Micha

27th October 2018. The Spartans v Edusport Academy. 1-1

First time I have been at Spartans for weeks. As usual walked to Ainslie Park and arrived around 14.25. First thing I did was go to cafe for a coffee as it was freezing. Got a message from Jim on way to the ground saying that he was at Civiil Service Strollers v East Kilbride. Strollers kicked off at 14.00 and were currently 1-0 up against East Kilbride who are one of Spartans main rivals at the top of the table. Jim said he would head to Ainslie Park for second half after the Civil Service game ended.  Edusport Academy are a unique side. The Academy is a residential football academy for young French footballers based at Lesser Hampden in Glasgow. The team, mainly composed of students in the academy, started in senior football in the South of Scotland League in 2014-2015 and had their first season in the Lowland League last season after winning the South of Scotland League in 2016-2017. Hone games are currently played at Galabank, Annan Athletic's home ground, although the c

Left the house after watching most of Chelsea v Manchester United and walked down to Tynecastle. This is going to be a difficult game as Hearts have lost John Souttar, Uche Ikpeazu, and Peter Haring to Injury. Souttar and Ikpeazu will be out for around five months while there is no word yet of Haring's condition.  In addition Michael Smith is also out after being sent off against Rangers at Ibrox in Hearts game. Arrived at ground around 14.30 to find Marcus Godinho (his first game of the season after injury), Clevid Dijamona, Oliver Bozanic and Calumn Morrison were coming into the side. In addition new signing from Sheffield Wednesday, Sean Clare, featured on the bench for the first time. Hearts should have had an early lead when three Hearts players were wrestled to the ground as a corner came into the Aberdeen box but referee Kevin Clancy could not see anything wrong with the challenges. Shortly afterwards Demitri Mitchell hit another corner just wide with an excellent turn

13th October 2018 Edinburgh University v Edinburgh United 1-0

Absolutely awful day and I was not sure where to go as rain was pouring down, Finally decided to go to Peffermill where I had choice between Leith v East Kilbride or Edinburgh University v Edinburgh United, Decided to go to the latter as their cafe is better. After a sausage roll and a coffee headed out to watch the game. Too be honest it was not the best of games. The Uni took an early lead when a free kick on the left was cleared by United back to Luke Murray. He crossed the ball back into the box where it was headed into the net by Aiden Kemp from about eight yards out. Despite claims for offside the goal stood. Thereafter United tried hard to get back in in the game and Gabri Auriemann had a great chance  when he ran through after defensive mistake but shot over the bar. At one stage a supporter shouted the Finn Daniels-Yeomans was the Beckenbaur of Edinburgh Uni. I think he is a good player who could play at a higher level but not a World Cup winner. Was also impressed

08th October 2018 Hearts reserves v Kilmarnock reserves 3-2

Did not know this game was until 13.00 but caught a bus out to Oriam to arrive at 13.45 in time for kickoff. it had been a frustrating weekend as I had wanted to go to see Musselburgh v Penicuik but traffic was horrendous due to bikers heading to indyref march so ended going home as would not have arrived till 15 minutes into the game. On Sunday I did not have enough points to go to Rangers v Hearts so ended up watching Liverpool v Manchester City on Sky. A pretty poor advert for the top of the Premier League in my opinion. One improvement at the Oriam is they have now put plastic sheets behind the goals so posts are now clear to spectators. The Jambos were first to threaten, with Aidan Keena hitting a half-volley over the bar before Lewis Moore’s angled snapshot was saved by Devlin Mackay. It was all Hearts inside the first half hour, with Wighton heading wide from Bartlomiej Gajda’s cross. However Kilmarnock took the lead when Oliver MacDonald shot past Silva after a pass from

3rd October 2018 Tynecastle v Tranent 0-3

Was originally intending to go and watch Penicuik v Tweedmouth. However due to a combination of factors I was running late and had not left enough time to get to Penicuik. Decided to go to Meggetland to watch Tynecastle v Tranent and walked along the canal for twenty minutes arriviing at the ground around 7.15. Only £3 to get in and nice comfortable seat in the stand. Only complaint I would have is that there are no team sheets on issue and teams are announced so quickly that it is difficult to note all the names. Tranent published team on Twitter so I was able to confirm their side but unable to confirm all the home team. Couple of interesting names the Tranent side. Former Hearts player Ian Black is now player/ assistant manager at Tranent and he started in midfield. Black's last game for Hearts was the famous 2012 cup final before he left to join Rangers. After Rangers he played for a few lower league sides in England before returning to Scotland. He still has the touches

1st October 2018. Hibs reserves v Hearts reserves 0-2

Another journey out to Riccarton for a 1.30 kickoff. Caught a 34 bus at 12.30 and met Malcolm when he got on the bus at Longstone. Game was at indoor pitch at the Oriam and admission charge was a donation to the Hibs development fund, given it was a Hibs home game. I put a couple of pounds in the bucket and then paid 50p for a programme. Hearts had a strong team out with all seven substitutes from Saturday starting while Hibs also fielded a number of regular substitutes in their line-up. It was not the best of games I have seen although Hearts always looked the better side. Hibs had a few chances in the first half with Jamie Gullan looking threatening. However Hearts looked good going forward and for the first time I thought Danny Amankwaa looked like a player as he drove at the Hibs defence.  Clevid Dikamona at centre half for Hearts also looked good and he won a number of challenges to keep Hibs at bay. Hearts  took the lead with two minutes of the half to go. Craig Wighton w
