13th October 2018 Edinburgh University v Edinburgh United 1-0
Absolutely awful day and I was not sure where to go as rain was pouring down, Finally decided to go to Peffermill where I had choice between Leith v East Kilbride or Edinburgh University v Edinburgh United, Decided to go to the latter as their cafe is better. After a sausage roll and a coffee headed out to watch the game.
Too be honest it was not the best of games.
The Uni took an early lead when a free kick on the left was cleared by United back to Luke Murray. He crossed the ball back into the box where it was headed into the net by Aiden Kemp from about eight yards out. Despite claims for offside the goal stood. Thereafter United tried hard to get back in in the game and Gabri Auriemann had a great chance when he ran through after defensive mistake but shot over the bar. At one stage a supporter shouted the Finn Daniels-Yeomans was the Beckenbaur of Edinburgh Uni. I think he is a good player who could play at a higher level but not a World Cup winner. Was also impressed by Uni fullback Murray who was always willing to get forward. For United Kern Hutchison also looked good and was always trying to create chances.
United continued to press in the second half but could not seem to be able to finish. As the game moved into injury time keeper Darren Waker came up for a corner. His initial header was deflected for another corner and from that one he had a shot deflected for yet another corner. Not the best game but a deserved win for the Uni against good opponents.
Caught a 42 bus after the game and walked home from Melville Drive.
