20th October 2018 Hearts v Aberdeen 2-1

Left the house after watching most of Chelsea v Manchester United and walked down to Tynecastle. This is going to be a difficult game as Hearts have lost John Souttar, Uche Ikpeazu, and Peter Haring to Injury. Souttar and Ikpeazu will be out for around five months while there is no word yet of Haring's condition.  In addition Michael Smith is also out after being sent off against Rangers at Ibrox in Hearts game. Arrived at ground around 14.30 to find Marcus Godinho (his first game of the season after injury), Clevid Dijamona, Oliver Bozanic and Calumn Morrison were coming into the side. In addition new signing from Sheffield Wednesday, Sean Clare, featured on the bench for the first time.

Hearts should have had an early lead when three Hearts players were wrestled to the ground as a corner came into the Aberdeen box but referee Kevin Clancy could not see anything wrong with the challenges. Shortly afterwards Demitri Mitchell hit another corner just wide with an excellent turn and shot. Aberdeen were putting in a number of physical challenges with Steven Naismith being the main target. However just after thirty minutes Olly Lee hit a short free kick to Morrison. Morrison moved a few yards fowards towards Aberdeen goal and hit an excellent cross for Arnaud Djoum to head Hearts into the lead. Just before halftime Hearts won a penalty when Naismith was brought down in the box by Lewis Ferguson. I thought that Ferguson had also handled the ball. Naismith took the penalty and scored to put Hearts 2-0 up.

It was quite amusing at halftime when Aberdeen manager, Derek McInnes, went running towards the referee, obviously not happy about the penalty award. Craig Levein followed him and listened to his rant which the referee waved away. It was a fantastic first half performance from Hearts, pressing all the time and accurate passing. 2-0 flattered Aberdeen as it could have been 5-0.

Aberdeen brought on two substitutes at halftime and pulled a goal back early on. Godinho pulled down Niall McGinn in the box and Gary Makay-Steven beat Bobby Zlamal from the spot. Djoum had a really good header later on but Joe Lewis in the Aberdeen goal made an excellent save. Hearts were awarded another penalty ten minutes from time when substitute Clare was brought down in the box. Lewis in the Aberdeen goal however pushed Naismith's attempt away. Zlamal made an excellent save with minutes to go when he dived to push a Mackay-Steven attempt past his far post.Aberdeen pressed for an equaliser but Hearts held firm for a deserved win despite Jimmy Dunne being assaulted by an Aberdeen fan. Police and stewards attended the incident but no action appeared to be taken. I was not happy with refereeing here as eleven players were booked, Five from Hearts and six from Aberdeen. Aberdeen were taking it in turns to foul Naismith to avoid the referee sending any of their team off.

Walked home and opened a bottle of vino in celebration.Started to watch Huddersfield v Liverpool but switched off as standard of football was nothing like Tynecstle.
