29th September 2018 Hearts v St Johnstone 2-1

All set for todays game after a controversial week. Hearts will now face Celtic in Betfred cup semi-final with kick-off at 7.45 on Sunday 28th October. Rangers play Aberdeen in first semi-final which kick off at 12.00 on same day. Both games will be at Hampden. However from a fans point of view first train from Aberdeen to Glasgow gets in at 12.14 and for Hearts fans last train back to Edinburgh is 23.30. Extra time and penalties could make this very tight. Protests are underway but as Old Firm fans will be happy I doubt SPFL will make any changes to game dates and times. Hearts are fielding same side as they did on Wednesday and l wandered down to Tynecastle aiming to arrive around 14.30.  Heats started well and fullback Michael Smith came close twice early on. Firstly with a shot from long range pushed away for a corner and then after a run into the box a shot to the side net when he should have at least troubled the keeper. However just after the twenty minute mark Peter Harin

26th September 2018 Hearts v Motherwell 4-2

Missed Hearts game v Livingston on Saturday as Natalie had taken me away to Dubrovnik for my birthday. Flew back today and arrived hone after a delay at 16.30. Left house at 19.00 and walked down to Tynecastle in time for kickoff. Since my last post Hearts have signed Sean Clare from Sheffield Wednesday (18th new player since end of last season) but he was not in squad tonight. Arnaud Djoum and Calumn Morrison however came into starting lineup. An interesting programme with cover based on 1950's style. Inside the programme of Hearts v Motherwell from December 1955 was reproduced. 1955 programme cost 3d (1p) in comparison to todays £3.50.  Hearts started well and in the first five minutes both Steven Naismith and Peter Haring had headers from corners cleared off the line. However things changed just after the ten minute mark when a ball headed back across goal by a Motherwell player struck Jimmy Dunne's hand. From where I was sitting it looked like ball played man but refer

15th September 2018 Edinburgh United v Mid Annandale 5-1

Was not sure where to go today. Was thinking about Motherwell for Hearts game but with visitors for lunch could not catch train in time to get there. Choices included LTHV v Spartans and games also on at Penicuik and Edinburgh University. Finally decided to be different and headed out to Edinburgh United v Mid Annandale in South Region Challenge Cup. Had not been the Uniteds ground at Paties Road before although I worked for three years only half a mile away. Caught a 27 bus and walked down from Firhill to Paties Road. It’s a nice ground in an urban setting just near the Mechiston Castle School playing fields. When teams came out on the field I felt like making a comeback as I am sure I am thinner than Edinburgh keeper Darren Walker. The Edinburgh side also included Eddie Mearns who started his career at Hearts and played a number of games in senior football before moving down the leagues. Game started wth a bang as Edinburgh scored in first minute which was later posted in Twit

8th September 2018 The Spartans v Whitehill Welfare 1-0

With the SPFL on an international break decided to go and watch Spartans. As I had done 5k steps in morning took lazy way of going and caught a 27 bus at Tollcross. Arrived at ground around 14.30 in time for a sausage roll and a Diet Coke. Not sure about this game. Whitehall used to be not a bad side but have fallen away over the past few years. With Selkirk having withdrawn from the Lowland league Whitehall are now bottom of the table with just one win this season. League officials have announced that one team will still be relegated this season with two sides being promoted bringing league back to sixteen sides next season. With sides like Bonnyrigg, Newtongrange and Penicuik now in the East Scotland league things could be worse rather than better for Whitehall if their local rivals are promoted. Spartans started well and American striker Steven MacDonald had an early shot saved by Ross Jardine in the Whitehall goal. MacDonald then had a close range shot cleared off th

At last another game at Tynecastle although there have been a few changes during the transfer window which ended yesterday. Kyle Lafferty got his move to Rangers at a reported fee of £650,000, Don Cowie returned to his first club Ross County and Ross Callachan has joined St Johnstone after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent. There have also be a number of loan moves, Malauray Martin, Aidan Keena (both to Dunfermline), Dario Zannatta (Alloa), Ryan Edwards (St Mirren although under terms of loan deal he cannot play against Hearts today), Euan Henderson (Montrose) and Rory Currie (East Fife). Players coming in are Craig Wighton (from Dundee for a fee of around £250,000), Jimmy Dunne (Burnley on loan and the return of Demetri Mitchell (season long loan from Manchester United). Left home at around 14.05 and walked down to Tynecastle arriving about 14.20 as the players were on on the park warming up. In the side Dunne has come in to replace the injured Christophe Berra in defen
