29th September 2018 Hearts v St Johnstone 2-1

All set for todays game after a controversial week. Hearts will now face Celtic in Betfred cup semi-final with kick-off at 7.45 on Sunday 28th October. Rangers play Aberdeen in first semi-final which kick off at 12.00 on same day. Both games will be at Hampden. However from a fans point of view first train from Aberdeen to Glasgow gets in at 12.14 and for Hearts fans last train back to Edinburgh is 23.30. Extra time and penalties could make this very tight. Protests are underway but as Old Firm fans will be happy I doubt SPFL will make any changes to game dates and times. Hearts are fielding same side as they did on Wednesday and l wandered down to Tynecastle aiming to arrive around 14.30.

Heats started well and fullback Michael Smith came close twice early on. Firstly with a shot from long range pushed away for a corner and then after a run into the box a shot to the side net when he should have at least troubled the keeper. However just after the twenty minute mark Peter Haring headed an Olly Lee corner which had been flicked on at the near post into the top of the net to give Hearts the lead. Calumn Morrison then had a chance to increase the lead but sent the ball wide.

After the halftime break Hearts continued to press and Morrison shot over the bar from twenty yards. St Johnstone substitute Danny Swanson received a raucous Tynecastle welcome, being both an ex-Hibs player and a Tynecastle failure, when he came on ten minutes into the second half. Steven MacLean missed a sitter after he fired over when a Naismith shot rebounded off the keeper into his path. Though MacLean had a really good game against Motherwell in midweek today he just seemed off the pace of the game. After sixty-five minutes Hearts went further ahead when another Lee corner was met by the head of Jimmy Dunne which gave the St Johnstone keeper no chance. While Hearts continued to press a defensive mixup allowed Drey Wright to find formerJjambo Ross Callachan fifteen yards out.  He passed the ball into the corner of the goal passed Zlamal. However give him his due he did not celebrate the goal against his former team and boyhood favourites. Hearts then held on to maintain their table topping position.

Walked back up the road and was home to watch Chelsea v Liverpool on BT Sport. However this was not a patch on watching the table topping Jambos. My man of the match would again be Peter Haring who works hard in midfield but can also score goals. To me he is like Julian Brellier from the 2006 side but also provides a goal scoring that.
