23rd April 2024 Penicuik Athletic 1 Musselburgh Athletic 3

Well it has been a while since I have been to Penicuik but decided to go tonight for their match against Musselburgh Athletic. I left home around 18.00 to catch a 47 bus to Penicuik. The weather was warm and I thought I was going to fall asleep on the bus but just managed to stay awake. Once I arrived at Montgomery Park I paid my £5 entrance and then bought a £2 programme. I wandered round towards the dressing rooms and took a photo of the team lineups which were on the wall near the main entrance. I then had a wander round the ground and met Jim near the Musselburgh bench  on the far side of the ground. We took up a position near the  fence in anticipation of the game starting . Penicuik are not having a great season and are currently eleventh in the eighteen club East of Scotland Premier League. Part of the problem is that they are currently on their third manager in the past twelve months. A number of long-serving players have now moved on and have been replaced by younger players.

Scottish Cup semi final at Hampden today. Hearts have beaten Rangers in their history. Even when they won the Scottish Cup against Rangers the game was played at Parkhead as Hampden was being refurbished. I was going to go by Megabus but decided train would be quicker. After a  brunch of a bacon sandwich I headed off to Waverley station to catch the 12.00. The bus to the station was early and even after going into M&S for a bottle of juice and a bag of crisps I managaged to catch the 11.30 train. After arriving at Glasgow Queen Street I walked to Central station. It was only just after 13.00 so I had a walk around the streets near the station before returned to get a train to Hampden. There were extra trains going to  Mount Florida but as I did not want to be surrounded by Rangers fans I was heading to Kings Park. This meant I avoided queuing for a Mount Florida train and rail staff directed me to platform 8 for Kings Park. After a short walk I arrived at Hampden and entered the

With Hearts playing Rangers in the cup semi-final tomorrow I decided to head out to Bonnyrigg to watch the Rose play Spartans in the SPFL league two. I walked down to Haymarket and caught a 31 bus around thirteen forty to head out to Bonnyrigg.for a change the weather was good and I almost feel asleep as the bus headed out of town. We arrived at Bonnyrigg Toll around fourteen twenty and from there I walked the short distance to the ground, I paid my £9 concessionary admission and bought a £2 programme before heading to a barrier opposite the main standing area in the sunshine. Both sides had their young ultras in attendance and the drums were drumming as the ultras were singing. I met Derek who was there as refereeing supervisor and also covering the match from Black Diamond FM. We had a chat as he took up a place beside me leaning on a barrier.  Bonnyrigg under new manager Calum Elliot had an excellent 4-1 away win at East Fife last week and are now eighth in League 2 ahead of Stran

Tynecastle again today with Hearts last game before the SPL split. Hearts now stand in third place of the league eleven points ahead of fourth placed Kilmarnock and look to be guaranteed European football next season. I left home just after 14.00 and walked to Tynecastle arriving around 14.20. I logged into Footbology outside the stadium as reception inside is awful. Scanned my season ticket and headed to my seat in main stand. There was a stranger in seat next to me and as we got talking he realised he was in the wrong row and moved away. When Davey came in I told him and found it amusing as he took his normal seat beside me. Steven Naismith made a total of six changes from the side that started in the win at Paisley last week. Lawrence Shankland and Beni Baningime returned after illness while Craig Gordon, Nat Atkinson, Yutaro Oda and Barrie McKay also returned to first team action. This was Gordons first league start since his broken leg in Christmas Eve 2922 and Naismith indicate

Back to Tynecasle today for Hearts SPL encounter with Kilmarnock. After lunch I left home at around 14.15 to walk to Tynecastle arriving fifteen minutes later. I updated my arrival in my Futbology app before entering the stadium as the reception inside is sometimes dodgy. After scanning my season ticket I headed for my seat in the main stand. Surprisingly reception today was good and I was able to update team lineups on Futbology prior to kick off.  Hearts made four changes afte three defeat at Ross County before the international break. In came Dexter Lembiska, Frankie Kent, Jorge Grant and Macaulay Tait. Tait was making his first start and several impressive substitute appearance. Both Lembikisa and substitute Kye Rowles had scored in internationals during the break and it looked like a promising omen for Hearts. As for Kilmarnock I do not like them as a side but they do have a good record at Tynecastle. In 1965 they won the league on goal average ahead oh Hearts. Given Hearts also

We  are on Saturday in the international break and I not sure where  to go today as choice either Penicuik v Glenrothes or Musselburgh v  Jeanfield. Given Penicuik have been awful this season I decided to head to Musselburgh. I walked down to Haymarket around 13.00 and caught a 26 bus to Musselburgh. Arrived there about 14.15 and walked the short distance to the ground. Paid my £5 admission bought a £2 programme. After a wander around the ground I met Jim and we took about a stance at the cafe end against the fence. It looked like being a goood game today with Musselburgh second on the EoS Premier League and Jeanfield third. Broxburn are however twelve points cleated at the top of the league and look Tati be champions at the end of the season. Musselburgh have probably the best three strikers in the league with Nathan Evans, Jordan Smith and recent signing Nicky Reid. Evans was not include in todays starting eleven due to injury while Smith was on the bench replaced by Jonnny Court.
