29th April 2020 Tynecastle 1 Hill of Beath Hawthorn 6

Back to normality today after my trip to Manchester earlier this week. Tonight I decided to stay local with Tynecastle playing Hill of Beath Hawthorn (HoBH in the East of Scotland League at Meggetland. I left home at 18.45 for the short walk along the canal to Meggetland, arriving at 19.15. I showed my Fanbase electronic ticket for entry and spottted Jim and John on the tarracing opposite the main stand so walked over to join them.

This was the first time I had seen Tynecastle this season. They share Meggetland with Boroughmuir Rugby and as a result the grass is longer than would be normally expected at a solely football stadium. This was a crucial match for both sides as they are still mathematically in danger of relegation the East of Scotland Premier League. HoBH are probably safe but Tynecastle need at least another three points to avoid relegation. The big thing I hate about going to watch Tynecastle the lack of information for fans. There are no programmes, team sheets or social media posts giving team line-ups and if the teams lineups are announced over the tannoy this can only be heard in the main stand. Given on previous visits the line-ups have only be announced once it is difficult for a neutral to identify players. Thankfully however HoBH provided a comprehensive match report on their website which has been of assistance.

HoBH started the game well and opened the scoring in five minutes after a misdirected defensive clearance fell at the feet of Ross Allum in the penalty area. The former Edinburgh City and Spartans striker made no mistake shooting low past Jackson in the Tynecastle goal. the game was end to end at this stage although HoBH went two up after twenty-two minutes. Ryan Connelly made a strong run into the box on the right to fire past Jackson. Allum had a header against the bar minutes later as HoBH threatened to score again.

Tynecastle started the second half strongly and Ryan Cameron had attempt on goal blocked by Russell Grierson. HoBH keeper Stuart Hall then made a 'Craig Gordonesque" save to stop an point blank attempt from Taylor Hendry. HoBH then broke uo field and Lyle Kellichan netted from close range after a cross from the right. Minutes later Johnny Galloway ran through the Tynecastle defence to notch a fourth goal. In fifty-five minutes a corner by Calum Adamson was headed into the net by Jake Mitchell too put the away side 5-1 ahead. Galloway set up a sixth goal with a good run and cross to Paul Quinn before Tynecastle finally got a reward for their efforts when Taylor Hendry headed home an Aaron Ponton cross from eight yards.

All in all a satisfying win for HoBH after the original match had been abandoned back in August with HoBH 2-0 up before a floodlight failure. After the final whistle I headed to the bus stop opposite the Kilted Pig. However with thirteen minute wait until the next bus I decided to walk and arrived home just after 22.00 after another good East of Scotland League match.
