Hearts were playing away at Dundee United today but with industrial action on the railways it would be difficult to get back to Dundee station to catch the last train back to Edinburgh. Regretfully I decided to give Tannadice a miss go to a more local game. I decided to head to Meadowbank to watch FC Edinburgh (although I still think of them as Edinburgh City) in their League One game against Peterhead. I bought a ticket on Fanbase and left home around 13.40 to walk to Meadowbank. After a pleasant walk through Holyrood Park I arrived at Meadowbank around 14.35. I had my ticket scanned at the turnstiles and entered the ground. After buying the  excellent value programme I found a seat in the back row of the three tiered stand and settled down to watch the end of the teams warmup. I still think Meadowbank is not a real football ground with stand only holding 499 people. While Edinburgh Council are now allowing around 1200 standing attendees the view for those standing must be poor with

A rare Thursday night game and I headed to Haymarket to catch a bus to Tranent, Caught a 26 and met up with Alex who got on at Abbeyhill. Arrived at the ground about ten minutes from kickoff and watched the last of the warmups before kickoff. No programmes or teamsheets available but teams were listed on social media.  Tonight was going to be a bit of a mismatch with Tranent second in the Lowland League and  the Uni second bottom with only the hapless Dalbeattie Star keeping them of the foot of the table. Tranent fielded a strong side with new signing from Penicuik playing as a right side attacking midfield player. Adam McGowan, on loan from Hamilton was on the left while Martin Maughan, the Bingham Bull, and Nicky Reid, on loan from FC Edinburgh, formed the strike force. The Uni have suffered several, heavy defeats yesterday and are in a difficult situation as the strength of their side depends on the annual student intake.  Tranent started well and looked in the mood to score a few g

I was not sure where to go tonight with Tynecastle at home to LTHV at Meggetland being the closest game. However  as I am not keen on Tynecastle or LHTV I decided to head out to Penicuik for their match against Vale of Leithen. I walked to High Riggs to catch a 47 bus at 19.35 out to Penicuik. I arrived at the ground an hour later to find I had missed the kick-off as the match had kicked off at 19.30. I paid my £5 admission and asked about programmes only to be told that due to printers deadlines none were available tonight. I wandered round to covered terracing and checked in on the Futbology app. After I checked in I got a message from Jim saying he was at the game. I found him just outside the covered area and he told me that teamsheets were available at the gate just beyond where we were standing. I got a free teamsheet as we watched the rest of the match.  Penicuik are sixth in the East of Scotland Premier but eleven points behind leaders Linlithgow Rose. Last season Penicuik fa

Well at Last the SPL was back. Cammy  Devlin, Nate Atkinson and Kye Rowles had all returned uninjured for the World Cup in Qatar although Rowles was suspended from todays match after beings ent off in last home game against Livingston. I left home just after 14.00 and walked down to Tynecastle arriving around 14.20. Displayed my season ticket and wandered up the stairs to the refreshment kiosk. After a coffee and a sausage roll, costing £5, I wander up to my seat in the main sand to watch the sides warming up.  Hearts had Craig Halkett and Stephen Kingsley back in defence after injury while Andy Halliday came in at left-back replacing Orestis Kiomortzoglou who dropped to the bench. Josh Ginnelly liked up at centre forward with Lawrence Shankland moving to a right sided attacking position. Kilmarnock lost Innes Cameron who seemed to pull a hamstring in the warm-up and he was replaced up front by debutant Bobby Wales.  Hearts the game well  and the returning Halliday had the first sigh

Still no Hearts fixtures due to World Cup break although they will be back tomorrow at Tynecastle against Kilmarnock. After a white-out last weekend I was desperate to watch some live action and decided to head to Ainslie Park tonight for Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale(LTHV) versus Musselburgh Athletic in the East of Scotland League, Premier Division. I left home at 18.15 and walked to Tollcross to catch a bus. The board showed eight minutes till the next direct bus was due so I decided to walk on a few stops rather than stand in the cold waiting. I was just turning from Lauriston Place into Forrest Road when the 27 drove past me. Luckily the bus stopped at the Forrest Road stop and as number of people were getting on and off there I was able to catch it before it drove off. I got off the bus at the Stewart’s Melville playing fields at Ferry Road and walked the remainder of the distance to Ainslie Park as I did not want to arrive too early and be standing about in what was still a ch

Still no SPFL football as the break for the World Cup finals continues. Had various options for a football buzz today including Hearts B at Tranent and Bonnyrigg at home to league leaders Dumbarton. However I decided to head out to Penicuik to watch their match against Musselburgh. I had it all planned to catch a 47 bus at Tollcross at 13.01 and arrived at the stop at 12.55 to find that the electronic board showed the next 47 in forty-nine minutes. A quick change of plan had me walking to St. Patrick Square to catch a 37 to Penicuik. After a scenic trip including visits to Loanhead and Roslin I arrived opposite the ground at 14.15. I paid my £5 admission and bought the excellent programme for £2 before heading towards the covered terracing. I stopped to take a photo of the tea sheet at the players pitch entrance kiosk. A steward said you should not come in this way and I explained I had come in the main entrance and was only taking a photo of the team-ups. He apologised and I headed
