13th August 2022 Haddington Athletic1 Crossgates Primrose 2

A new ground for me today. Although I worked in Haddington for three years I have never been to Millfield before. I wandered down to Haymarket to catch the 12.40 X37 bus to arrive in Haddington for the 14.30 kickoff. I arrived in the centre of the town around 13.45 and then had a fifteen minute walk to Millfield. When I arrived the gates for spectator entry were still locked although several others were waiting for entry. The gates were unlocked and I paid my £5 admission charge. A free pram e was also available on entry. Ok the presentation was not brilliant with no pictures but the content was excellent. The ground is compact with a food hut to the right on entry. beyond that area was a covered terrace with seating on the back step. The seats continue beyond the covered area. The areas behind the right hand goal and behind the dugouts are both grass. To the left on entry are the dressing rooms with a building behind them which I assume is for club functions. One thing I would say

A Wednesday night and another game at Ainslie Park with Spartans playing Rangers B in the SPFL trophy. I had done quite a bit of walking today so walked to Tollcross and caught a 27 bus to Ainslie Park. After getting off they bus I walked to Ainslie Oark but was surprised that my season ticket was not valid. The £5 admittance charge was not a major obstacle just merely annoying. After buying my £2 programme I walked up to the cafe bar for a pie and a glass of red wine.  Spartans made few changes for the match Adam Meek replaced Blair Carswell in goal while Sean Brown, Rhys Armstrong and Calum Burns both came back into the starting line-up. Bradley Whyte, Jamie Dishington and Blair Henderson all dropped to the bench. Rangers brought Alex Lowry, who played a few firsts team games back into the starting line-up. To be honest Rangers were the better side early on, although I hate saying that. After around ten minutes Zak Lovelace fed a through ball to Robbie Ure and only an excellent tac

Tuesday night and the first round of the SPFL Challenge Trophy. This is the round where SPL ‘B’ take part and I decided to head out to Bonnyrigg to watch the SPFL newcomers against the Livingston B side. I wandered down to Haymarket around 18.30 to catch a 31 bus to Bonnyrigg. A 31 to. Bonnyrigg arrived at the same time as one to Polton Mill and I caught the Polton Mill bus having just missed the Bonnyrigg bus. With the two buses continually passing each other the journey was quicker than normal and I arrived in Bonnyrigg around 19.15. I arrived at the ground minutes later and paid my £5 entry charge. Surprisingly there were no programmes available for the game tonight. I wandered round to the grassy embankment and took up a position against a barrier near the goal line.  Robbie Horn made eight changes for the first round clash following Saturday’s league victory over East Fife – with the standout rotations being Mikey Andrews starting in goal, Zach Khan making his first ever competi

The first Edinburgh derby of the season today. With a kickoff at 12.00 for live Sky coverage I left home at 10.30 to walk to Easter Road. I walked down through the Grassmarket, Cowgate and Abbeyhill to the top of Easter Road. I met another ex-work colleague and walked to the ground chatttibg about the forthcoming match. Unturned out we were both in the same area of the stand although a few seats apart. Surprisingly for a change the stewards were not searching everyone ion entry and we got into the ground easily with our tickets being electronically, scanned. Hibs are no longer isssuing programmes which they say were making losses while I think most Hibs fans have difficulty understanding words with more than four letters. I took my seat in row MM of the stand although ended up standing to watch the match as everyone in the rows in front of me was standing.  Hearts made a couple of changes from last weeks match with Michael Smith moving back to right back to replace Nate Atkinson whil

With Hearts playing Hibs in the Edinburgh derby at Easter Road tomorrow I had a free Saturday. I could have gone to Rosewell to watch the Hearts B team in Lowland League action but decided to use my Spartans season ticket and head to Ainslie Park for Spartans Lowland league fixture against Galafairydean Rovers. I left home around 13.30 to walk to Ainslie Park  arriving arond 14.35. I showed my season ticket for entry and then got a  programme before heading up to the cafe. I had a chat with Stuart before heading into the cafe for a coffee. After the coffee I headed down to the stand and grabbed a seat before the game kicked off.  Spartans had made a number of changes from their midweek game against Rangers B.Jamie Dishington and Blair Henderson returned to the starting eleven. Harvey Swann was missing from the starting lineup having dislocated his should in a training accident last week and will be unavailable for at least three months if not longer. Gala aav started the season well

First Friday night match of the season tonight at Ainlie Park. With Spartans at home to Gala tomorrow tenants Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale (LTHV) have switched their East of Scotland league match against Penicuik to avoid a clash with the Spartans match. After an early meal I left home at around 18.20 to walk to Ainslie Park. I walked down the old railway path and arrived at the ground around 19.15. Paid my £3 admittance charge and bought a £2 programme  Jim arrived minutes after me and we took up position against the fence at the cafe end of the ground to await the arrival. he appeared from the cafe minutes before coffee having been in the ground since 19.00 think ot was a 19.30 and not 19.45 kick-off. The teams were to and ready to kickoff so we decided to stay at the cafe end as we thought that most of the action would be there as Penicuik were attacking the goal at that end. LTHV have started the season with defeats in their first two league matches. They have a young side alth

Away to Paties Road tonight but not to watch Edinburgh United. Edinburgh South had previously been sharing Kings Park with Dalkeith Thistle under a leasing arrangement. However Thistle have ended the arrangement under a break clause in the lease as they no longer wish to share Kings Park with another Community Football Club.Edinburgh Sot are now homeless and has reached an agreement with Edinburgh United to share Paties Road until they can find a new ground of their own. A few sites have been identified but the major stumbling block is the cost of building a stadium which would meeting SFA licensing requirements. South are hoping to be able to use part of Inch park, near Cameron Toll, but we will need to watch for developments. I left home to catch a bus at 16.42 which was late but I still arrived at Redford Barracks are 19.00. I walked along Elliot  Road and down to parties Road. I paid my £3 admission charge and also bought a couple of strips of raffle tickets before taking a seat

2nd August 2022. Tynecastle 1 Penicuik Athletic 3

My first Penicuik match of 2022/23 with the ‘Cuikie’ playing Tynecastle at Meggetland. After an early meal I left home at 18.40 for the short walk along the canal to Meggetland. At Harrison Park I met Alan sitting on a park bench. He was also heading to Meggetland so I walked with him the rest of the way. We arrived at Meggetland around 19.10 for the 19.30 kick-off. Surprisingly the electronic tickets were not scanned and we were handed a paper ticket before going through the turnstiles. As normal there were no programmes on sale so we took seats in the main stand near the halfway line in preparation for the kickoff. There was no tannoy announcement of the teams lineups but Penicuik showed their team on Twitter and Facebook just before the kickoff. Even better they also listed the Tynecastle lineup in the post.  Tynecastle had lost their first league match of the season, 4-0 at Sauchie, and will, I think, face a season of struggle in the East of Scotland Premier League. I did not know
